What is an Enzyme?
Enzymes are biocatalysts produced by living cells that perform specific biochemical reactions. By adding enzymes to feed, the aim is to provide animals with enzymes that they either insufficiently or do not produce at all, enabling better utilization of structurally difficult-to-digest carbohydrate components in feed as well as other organic and inorganic elements, and to neutralize certain undesirable substances.
While feed digestion in adult ruminants occurs largely through microbial activity in the rumen, rumen fermentation in newborns is not fully developed, and due to the high energy requirements in high-producing dairy cattle, research on exogenous enzyme use has increased in recent years, primarily to enhance feed utilization.
By reducing viscosity in the small intestine or hydrolyzing nutrients that escape rumen digestion, it can increase nutrient absorption in the small intestine.
